Bannister Academy - Femke's switch from labor to criminal law
In early March, we proposed Femke Van Dyck to you. Femke is a final year Law Practice student and will be running for 16 weeks in our Bannister Academy, which is a broad training and education program in which we immerse students in the legal profession and introduce them to the various branches of law we have on hand.
After 5 weeks in the department of labor law, Femke is now doing an internship with us criminal justice department. She is amazed at how the past few weeks have flown by and can hardly believe that the end of her Academy is quietly approaching.
Time for another conversation with Femke!
How do you like the switch to criminal justice?
Femke: "My range of duties in criminal law is again very broad. I get to analyze files, summarize and inform convicted persons about the further course of their case. Soon I will even go along to court hearings, something I am really looking forward to. I'm very curious to see how such a hearing goes in real life, not like in TV programs, but the real deal. I find it really exciting."
We understand that all too well!
Femke: "You know what else I like so much? And that doesn't just apply to criminal law... It's the variation in the cases. Take, for example, three files on drug offenses, you would think there would be similarities, but no, they all differ in content. No case is the same, it never gets boring.
Are you as satisfied as ever with office fun?
Femke: "Definitely! It really remains a perfect mix between healthy ambition and fun at work. Due to coronagraphs, I'm no longer in the office full time and regularly work from home. A lot of contact on such days runs via email, and then it's nice to see that space is made for an amicable update there as well. We don't lose sight of each other. Nice, isn't it?"
Femke is incredibly looking forward to her final internship weeks.
